Excel Viewer and Editor

Upload an .xlsx or .xls file to browse every sheet in a tab bar and edit any cell directly in an interactive table. Add or remove rows and columns, switch between sheets without losing your edits, and download the result as a fresh .xlsx file. You don't need Excel installed, nothing is uploaded to a server, and no account is required.

Fix a spreadsheet without installing anything

Sometimes you just need to open an .xlsx file, correct a few values, and send it back, without installing Excel, signing into an online office suite, or uploading data anywhere. That's what this tool is for: open it, edit the cells you need, and export.

Built on the same library as real spreadsheet tools

This editor uses SheetJS, an open-source library for reading and writing spreadsheet formats. The files it produces are standard .xlsx workbooks that open correctly in Excel, Google Sheets, and LibreOffice Calc.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool upload my spreadsheet to a server?

No. The file is read, edited, and re-written in your browser using the SheetJS library, so your workbook never leaves your device.

Can it open files with multiple sheets?

Yes, every sheet in the uploaded workbook appears as its own tab. You can switch between them freely, and edits to each sheet are kept when you download the final file.

Does it support both .xlsx and the older .xls format?

Yes, both formats are supported for upload. The downloaded file is always saved in the modern .xlsx format.

Will formulas and formatting be preserved?

This tool works with cell values as plain text for easy, reliable editing, so formulas are read as their last calculated value and cell formatting/styles are not preserved in the exported file. For quick data fixes this is usually exactly what you want; for a fully formatted workbook, use a desktop spreadsheet application instead.

Is there a limit on file size or number of rows?

There's no hard-coded limit, but very large workbooks depend on your browser's available memory since the whole sheet is loaded for editing.
