Image Measure

Upload a photo or diagram and click two points to measure the distance between them in pixels. For real-world measurements, switch to Calibrate mode, draw a line over an object of known length (a ruler, a coin, a known dimension), enter that length, and every subsequent measurement is reported in millimeters, centimeters, or inches.

How it works

  1. 1

Upload the image you want to measure.

  2. 2

In Measure mode, click two points to see the distance between them.

  3. 3

Optionally switch to Calibrate mode, click two points on a reference object, and enter its real-world length.

  4. 4

Switch back to Measure mode: distances are now reported in your chosen unit (mm, cm, or in) instead of pixels.

A ruler for any photo

Whether you're checking if a piece of furniture will fit through a doorway from a photo, estimating the size of an object in a product shot, or measuring a wound or rash in a medical photo, you often just need to compare two points. This tool does that, without needing a physical ruler in frame every time.

Simple, transparent calibration math

The calibration step is a single ratio: pixel length of your reference line divided by its known real-world length gives pixels-per-unit, and every measurement after that is just pixel distance divided by that ratio. It's the same principle a printed scale bar uses, just calculated for you instantly.

Frequently asked questions

How does calibration turn pixels into real units?

You draw a line over something whose real length you already know (a ruler, a credit card, a coin) and enter that length. The tool divides the pixel length of that line by the real length to get a pixels-per-unit ratio, then divides any later pixel measurement by that ratio to get a real-world length.

What units are supported?

Millimeters, centimeters, and inches. You choose the unit when you calibrate, and it's used for all subsequent measurements.

How accurate is the measurement?

Accuracy depends on how precisely you click the reference points and how perpendicular your photo is to the subject. The tool itself does the pixel math exactly, but perspective distortion in the photo isn't corrected for.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is loaded locally with the FileReader API and all click coordinates and math happen in your browser, so nothing is sent to a server.

Can I measure without calibrating first?

Yes, Measure mode works immediately and reports distances in pixels. Calibration is optional and only needed if you want a real-world unit instead of pixels.
