Shapefile Viewer
Upload a zipped Esri Shapefile (.shp/.dbf/.shx) to see it drawn on an auto-fit map preview, with a summary of the feature count, geometry types found, and a properties table from the .dbf attribute data. No GIS software is required. The raw GeoJSON is also available in a collapsible panel, for copying or downloading. Everything runs client-side.

How it works
- 1
Drop a .zip containing the .shp, .dbf, and .shx files of your shapefile (or a bare .shp).
- 2
The tool parses the geometry and attribute table with shpjs, entirely in your browser.
- 3
All shapes are drawn onto an auto-fit map preview, scaled to the geometry's bounding box.
- 4
Review the feature count, geometry types, and a properties table, or expand the raw GeoJSON to copy or download it.
A fast way to sanity-check a shapefile
Before importing a shapefile into a GIS project or a mapping app, it helps to confirm what's actually inside it: how many features, what geometry types, and whether the attribute columns look right. This viewer gives you that at a glance without installing any GIS software.
Auto-fit geometry preview
The map preview computes the bounding box of every coordinate in the shapefile and scales the shapes to fit the viewport automatically, using a simple equirectangular projection, enough to visually confirm the shapes and their general layout without a full mapping library.
GeoJSON when you need it
The visual preview is the primary view, but the underlying GeoJSON FeatureCollection produced from the shapefile is always available in a collapsible panel, ready to copy into another tool or download as a .geojson file for further processing.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need GIS software to use this?
No. This tool reads the shapefile directly in your browser and draws its shapes for you. No ArcGIS, QGIS, or other desktop GIS application is required.
Does it show real map tiles behind the shapes?
No, this is a lightweight geometry preview: shapes are drawn on a blank canvas using a simple auto-fit projection, not over satellite or street map tiles. It's meant for a quick structural check, not cartographic styling.
How many features' attributes does the table show?
The properties table shows the first 20 features by default, since shapefiles can contain thousands of records. The full attribute data for every feature is still present in the underlying GeoJSON.
Can I still get the GeoJSON out of this tool?
Yes. Expand the "Raw GeoJSON output" panel to copy the full FeatureCollection to your clipboard or download it as a .geojson file.
Is my shapefile uploaded anywhere?
No. Parsing and rendering both happen entirely in your browser using the shpjs library - your dataset never leaves your device.
