Lat/Lng Point Finder

Paste or upload a list of latitude/longitude points (CSV with lat, lng[,label] columns, or one "lat, lng" per line) plus a single target coordinate, and this tool computes the great-circle (haversine) distance from the target to every point, sorts them nearest-first, and highlights the closest match. Everything is calculated with plain math in your browser, with no geocoding API, no network calls, and no upload of your coordinates.

How it works

  1. 1

Enter your target point as "lat, lng" (optionally with a label).

  2. 2

Paste or upload your list of candidate points: one "lat, lng" or "lat, lng, label" per line, or a CSV with lat/lng/label columns.

  3. 3

The tool computes the haversine great-circle distance from the target to every point.

  4. 4

Results are ranked nearest-first, with the closest point highlighted and a full distance table in kilometers or miles.

Why compute distance without a geocoding API?

Finding the nearest warehouse, store, sensor, or delivery point to a given coordinate is a common task that doesn't actually require an external mapping service. It's pure spherical trigonometry. This tool implements the haversine formula directly, so you get instant, offline results without API keys, rate limits, or sending your location data anywhere.

Built for real coordinate lists

Paste a handful of points by hand or drop in a CSV export from a spreadsheet, database query, or GPS device. The parser accepts both plain lines and a full CSV with a header row, and automatically labels unlabeled points so the ranked results table is always readable.

Privacy by design

Location lists, such as customer addresses, delivery stops, or survey points, are often sensitive. Every calculation runs as plain JavaScript in your browser tab and no network request is ever made, so your coordinates never leave your device.

Frequently asked questions

Does this use a geocoding or mapping API?

No. There are no network calls at all. This tool only does great-circle distance math (the haversine formula) on the numeric coordinates you provide, entirely in your browser.

How accurate is the haversine formula?

Haversine distance treats the Earth as a perfect sphere, which is accurate to within about 0.5% of the true ellipsoidal distance. That's more than precise enough for finding the nearest point, comparing rankings, or rough distance estimates.

What input formats are supported for the point list?

Plain lines of "lat, lng" or "lat, lng, label", or a CSV file with a header row containing lat/latitude and lng/lon/longitude columns (optionally with a label column). Both are auto-detected.

Can I switch between kilometers and miles?

Yes, use the unit toggle above the results to switch the whole distance table and the nearest-point summary between kilometers and miles instantly.

What happens if one of my coordinates is invalid?

The tool checks that latitude is between -90 and 90 and longitude between -180 and 180, and reports exactly which line is malformed so you can fix your input.
