SERP Snippet Preview

Type in a URL, title tag, and meta description to see a preview of how it would render as a Google search result, with pixel-width-based truncation (Google truncates by rendered width, not character count) and live meters showing how close each field is to being cut off. This is a live preview tool, not a live SERP scraper. It never queries Google, since scraping Google's actual search results pages violates Google's Terms of Service and is unreliable from a browser.

How it works

  1. 1

Enter the page URL, title tag, and meta description you're considering.

  2. 2

The preview renders them styled like an actual Google desktop search result.

  3. 3

Width meters estimate how close your title and description are to Google's typical truncation point, based on rendered pixel width rather than a fixed character count.

  4. 4

Adjust your copy until neither field shows a truncation warning.

Why the snippet matters more than the ranking sometimes suggests

Two pages can rank in the same position and get very different click-through rates because of how their snippet reads. A title that gets cut off mid-word, or a description that trails into an unhelpful ellipsis, costs clicks that better copy would have earned. This preview lets you catch that before publishing.

A simulator, not a live scraper

A tool that scrapes search results through a proxy and claims to 'analyze your live Google ranking' breaks quickly once Google blocks it, violates Google's terms, and gives false confidence in numbers that can vanish the next time Google changes its anti-scraping measures. This tool does the one thing it can do reliably: simulate the snippet from the copy you control.

Frequently asked questions

Why pixel width instead of a simple character limit?

Google truncates titles and descriptions based on how wide they render on screen, not how many characters they contain. A title full of capital 'W's takes up more space than one full of lowercase 'i's at the same character count. This tool estimates rendered width per character rather than using a flat character cutoff like '60 characters', which is a common oversimplification in other snippet tools.

Is this exactly how Google will show my page?

No, it's a close approximation. Google's actual layout, font metrics, and truncation behavior aren't publicly documented, can vary by device and query, and Google sometimes rewrites your title or description based on the search query. Treat this as a directional guide, not a pixel-perfect guarantee.

Does this tool check real Google search results for my page?

No, deliberately. Scraping Google's live search results pages, even through a proxy, violates Google's Terms of Service and tends to get blocked or CAPTCHA'd quickly, which makes it an unreliable foundation for a tool. This is a preview and simulator based on the copy you type in, and nothing is sent anywhere.

What's a good target length for title and description?

As a rough guide, titles under about 55-60 characters and descriptions under about 155-160 characters usually display in full on desktop, but the real constraint is rendered width, so use the meters here rather than a fixed character count.

Does it work for mobile previews too?

This preview targets desktop metrics specifically. Mobile Google results use different width constraints and often show more of the title, so a title that's safe here may render differently on mobile.
