Video Frame Extractor
Upload a video, optionally trim it to a range, then pull out still frames either every N seconds or as a fixed number of evenly spaced frames across the range. Choose PNG for lossless quality or JPEG with an adjustable quality slider for smaller files. Extracted frames are shown as thumbnails and bundled into a single frames.zip for download, entirely on-device.

How it works
- 1
Upload a video file and let it load in the player.
- 2
Optionally set a trim range to limit extraction to part of the video.
- 3
Pick a mode: extract a frame every N seconds, or a fixed number of frames spread evenly across the range.
- 4
Choose PNG or JPEG (with a quality slider), then click Extract. Preview the thumbnails and download them all as a ZIP, or save the single image directly if only one frame was extracted.
Frame-accurate extraction, not screenshots
Rather than seeking the video element and hoping a screenshot lands on the right frame, this tool decodes the video's actual frame data at the computed timestamps, so the still images you get are precise samples of the source rather than approximations.
Two modes for two different needs
Extracting a frame every few seconds is great for a quick visual timeline of a video's content, while asking for a fixed number of evenly spaced frames is better when you need a consistent set of thumbnails regardless of how long the source clip runs.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the two extraction modes?
"Every N seconds" grabs a frame at a fixed time interval, so the number of frames depends on how long your trim range is. "N total frames" instead fixes the frame count and spreads those frames evenly across the range regardless of its length, useful when you want a consistent number of thumbnails no matter the clip's duration.
Should I pick PNG or JPEG?
PNG is lossless and best when you need pixel-perfect stills, for example for further editing. JPEG with the quality slider produces much smaller files and is usually the better choice for sharing thumbnails or previews where exact pixel fidelity doesn't matter.
Do I get a ZIP file every time?
Only when more than one frame is extracted. If your settings produce exactly one frame, the tool skips the ZIP step and lets you download that single image directly.
Is there a limit on how many frames I can extract?
Yes, up to 500 frames in "N total frames" mode, to keep the browser responsive and the resulting ZIP a manageable size. The "every N seconds" mode isn't capped the same way, but a very short interval on a long video will naturally produce many frames and take longer to process.
Does extraction happen on a server?
No. The video is decoded and each frame is converted to an image entirely in your browser tab using the WebCodecs API, with zipping also done locally. Nothing is uploaded.
