Why Collada gave way to glTF

Collada was built to move 3D scenes between different tools, but its XML verbosity and inconsistent vendor support eventually gave way to glTF/GLB, which Khronos designed as a fast, compact binary format for runtime use.

Built on three.js

This tool uses three.js's ColladaLoader to parse the file and its GLTFExporter to write the GLB. Both are loaded on demand via a dynamic import, so the rest of the site stays fast.

What is a DAE file?

DAE is the file extension for Collada (COLLAborative Design Activity), an open XML-based 3D interchange format once widely used by game engines and 3D tools before glTF became the web standard.

Why convert Collada to GLB?

Collada's verbose XML and inconsistent tool support make it a poor fit for the web, while GLB is compact, binary and consistently supported across browsers, AR viewers and modern engines.

Is my 3D model uploaded anywhere?

No. Parsing and conversion happen entirely in your browser using three.js; the file never leaves your device.

Are textures referenced by the DAE included?

Textures embedded in or correctly referenced alongside the DAE are picked up by the loader when available; textures living in a separate folder you didn't select won't be found.
