GLB to DAE (Collada) Converter (Static Mesh)
Drop a .glb or .gltf file and the tool parses it with three.js's GLTFLoader, then writes a Collada (.dae) XML file holding the static triangle mesh (positions, normals, and UVs) for older pipelines that still read Collada. three.js doesn't include a Collada exporter, so this writer follows the public COLLADA 1.4.1 schema directly. The whole process runs in your browser, and the model file stays on your device.

How it works
- 1
Drop or select a .glb or .gltf file.
- 2
The tool parses the scene with three.js's GLTFLoader and flattens every mesh into one triangle list.
- 3
A hand-written Collada (COLLADA 1.4.1) XML writer outputs the geometry, normals and UVs.
- 4
Preview the model and download the .dae.
Filling a real gap in three.js
three.js can read Collada files but was never given a way to write them. This tool covers the common case of getting a static mesh's shape into a valid .dae file. It doesn't try to replicate everything the format can describe.
What to expect from a hand-written exporter
The COLLADA XML this tool produces covers what a basic 3D viewer needs: vertex positions, normals, one UV channel, and a flat Lambert material in a single geometry and visual scene. If your workflow depends on skeletal animation or multiple materials, a dedicated DAE tool like Blender will do better.
Frequently asked questions
Why does this only export a static mesh?
three.js includes a Collada reader (ColladaLoader) but no Collada writer, so this tool implements its own minimal XML writer, built from scratch against the public COLLADA 1.4.1 schema: vertices, normals, UVs, and a basic Lambert material. Skinning and animation aren't part of it.
Will this DAE open in Blender or older game engines?
It writes the subset of the COLLADA schema that static-mesh importers expect: one geometry, one material, triangles with positions, normals, and UVs. Scenes that need multiple materials, skeletons, or animation will come out simplified.
Why convert GLB to DAE at all?
Some older pipelines and legacy tools still only read Collada. This moves a web-native GLB model's shape into a format those tools can open.
Is my 3D model uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion happens locally in the browser tab; the file is never sent anywhere.
