GLB to FBX Converter (Static Mesh)

Drop a .glb or .gltf file and the tool parses it with three.js's GLTFLoader, then writes an ASCII FBX file holding the static triangle mesh (positions, normals, and UVs) for tools that still expect FBX. three.js doesn't ship an FBX exporter, so this writer is built from scratch for geometry only, with no skeletons, skinning, or animation. Everything happens in your browser, and the model file stays on your device.

How it works

  1. 1

Drop or select a .glb or .gltf file.

  2. 2

The tool parses the scene with three.js's GLTFLoader and flattens every mesh into one triangle list.

  3. 3

A hand-written ASCII FBX writer outputs the geometry, normals and UVs.

  4. 4

Preview the model and download the .fbx.

Filling a real gap in three.js

three.js can read FBX files but was never given a way to write them, partly because the format's full binary spec isn't public. This tool covers the common case of getting a static mesh's shape into FBX. It doesn't try to replicate every feature of the format.

What to expect from a hand-written exporter

The ASCII FBX text this tool produces covers what a basic 3D viewer needs: vertex positions, per-polygon normals, one UV channel, and a flat Lambert material. If your workflow depends on skeletal animation or multiple materials, a dedicated FBX tool like Blender will do better.

Frequently asked questions

Why does this only export a static mesh?

three.js includes an FBX reader (FBXLoader) but no FBX writer, and Autodesk hasn't published the full binary/ASCII spec. This tool uses its own minimal ASCII FBX writer for vertices, normals, UVs, and a basic material. Skeletons, skinning, and animation clips aren't part of it.

Will this FBX open in Blender, Unity or Maya?

It targets the subset of the ASCII FBX 7.4 format that static-mesh importers in common tools accept. Complex scenes with multiple separate objects, per-mesh materials, or animation will come out as a simplified, single-mesh result rather than a full round-trip.

Why convert GLB to FBX at all?

FBX is still the default import format for many game engines, DCC tools, and older asset pipelines. This moves a web-native GLB model into a form those tools can open, even without animation.

Is my 3D model uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion happens locally in the browser tab; the file is never sent anywhere.
