GLB to OBJ Converter

Drop a .glb or .gltf file and this tool parses it with three.js's GLTFLoader, then re-exports the geometry as a plain-text Wavefront .obj file, the format most 3D editors, CAD tools and asset pipelines accept. The parsing happens in your browser, so the file stays on your machine.

How it works

  1. 1

Drop or select a .glb or .gltf file.

  2. 2

The tool parses the scene with three.js's GLTFLoader.

  3. 3

The geometry is re-exported as plain-text Wavefront .obj.

  4. 4

Preview the model and download the .obj.

Going from the web standard to a universal fallback

GLB is optimized for fast, single-file delivery on the web and in AR, but plenty of older or specialized 3D software still expects OBJ's simple, text-based triangle lists. Converting back gives you a format almost every 3D tool can open.

Powered by three.js, right in the page

This tool uses three.js's GLTFLoader to parse the file and its OBJExporter to write the OBJ text, loaded on demand via a dynamic import so the rest of the site stays fast for everyone else.

Frequently asked questions

Do materials and textures convert too?

This tool exports the OBJ geometry itself using three.js's OBJExporter, which does not write a companion .mtl material file, so you'll get the shape but not materials/textures in the OBJ output.

Why convert GLB to OBJ?

Some older 3D software, CAD tools and asset pipelines only accept OBJ. GLB was built for the web and AR, so it isn't always supported there, and converting back opens the model to that wider, older tooling.

Does this work with GLTF (the JSON variant), not just GLB?

Yes, both the binary .glb and the JSON-based .gltf are accepted.

Is my 3D model uploaded anywhere?

No. Parsing and conversion happen in your browser with three.js, so the file never leaves your device.
