GLB to PLY Converter

Drop a .glb or .gltf file and this tool parses it with three.js's GLTFLoader, then re-exports the mesh as a binary .ply file, a format used by 3D scanning, point-cloud and research tools such as MeshLab and CloudCompare. The conversion runs in your browser, so the model never gets uploaded.

How it works

  1. 1

Drop or select a .glb or .gltf file.

  2. 2

The tool parses the scene with three.js's GLTFLoader.

  3. 3

The mesh is re-exported as a single binary .ply file.

  4. 4

Preview the model and download the .ply.

From web delivery to research tooling

GLB is built for fast loading in a browser or AR app. PLY's simple vertex and face lists are what scanning and mesh-analysis software expects instead, so converting moves a model from a 'show it on the web' format to a 'measure or process it' one.

Powered by three.js, right in the page

This tool uses three.js's GLTFLoader to parse the file and its PLYExporter to write the binary PLY, loaded on demand via a dynamic import so the rest of the site stays fast for everyone else.

Frequently asked questions

Why convert GLB to PLY?

PLY is what most 3D scanning, point-cloud and mesh-processing tools (MeshLab, CloudCompare, research pipelines) read natively. GLB is aimed at web and AR delivery, so converting lets a web-sourced model be analyzed or edited in those tools instead.

Are vertex colors preserved?

If the GLB's mesh has vertex colors, they are written into the PLY's per-vertex color properties.

Does this support multiple meshes in one GLB?

The full scene is exported; if the GLB contains several meshes, they're combined into the single output PLY.

Is my 3D model uploaded anywhere?

No. Parsing and conversion happen in your browser with three.js, so the file never leaves your device.
