OBJ to GLB Converter

Drop a Wavefront .obj file and this tool parses its geometry and materials, builds a three.js scene, and re-exports it as a single binary .glb file, the format used by web viewers, AR apps, and most modern game engines. It runs with three.js in your browser; the model is never uploaded.

How it works

  1. 1

Drop or select a .obj file.

  2. 2

The tool parses its vertices, faces and UVs with three.js's OBJLoader.

  3. 3

The resulting mesh is re-exported as a single binary .glb file.

  4. 4

Preview the model and download the .glb.

From a decades-old format to the modern web standard

OBJ dates back to the 1990s and stores geometry as plain text with no compression, no PBR materials and no single-file packaging. GLB (the binary form of glTF) was designed specifically for the web and AR: compact, fast to parse, and able to embed textures and materials in one file.

Powered by three.js, right in the page

This tool uses three.js's own OBJLoader to parse the file and its GLTFExporter to write the GLB, the same libraries used in many production 3D web apps. They load on demand, so the rest of the site stays fast.

Frequently asked questions

Does this support OBJ files with a separate .mtl material file?

This converter reads the geometry from the .obj file itself. If your OBJ references an external .mtl, the shapes will convert correctly but material colors/textures from the .mtl won't be picked up unless they're embedded in the OBJ.

Why convert OBJ to GLB?

GLB is a single, compact binary file (geometry, materials and textures all in one), which is what web 3D viewers, AR Quick Look alternatives and most modern engines expect, while OBJ is an older plain-text format split across multiple files.

Is my 3D model uploaded anywhere?

No. Parsing and conversion happen in your browser using three.js, so the file never leaves your device.

Is there a file size limit?

Only the limits of your device's memory and browser tab, since the whole model is loaded and processed in memory.
