PLY to GLB Converter
Drop a .ply file (a point cloud or mesh from a 3D scan, LiDAR capture or photogrammetry tool) and this tool parses its vertices, and per-vertex colors if present, with three.js's PLYLoader, then re-exports the result as a binary .glb file for the web, AR or game engines. Everything runs locally, so the scan is never uploaded.

How it works
- 1
Drop or select a .ply file (binary or ASCII).
- 2
The tool parses its vertices, faces and vertex colors with three.js's PLYLoader.
- 3
Meshes get recomputed normals; pure point clouds render as points.
- 4
Preview the result and download it as a binary .glb file.
From scan data to a shareable 3D asset
PLY is a flexible but scanner-centric format: great for storing raw points, colors and sometimes faces from a LiDAR or photogrammetry pipeline, but rarely what a web page, AR viewer or game engine can load directly. GLB bridges that gap with a single compact file.
Powered by three.js, right in the page
This tool uses three.js's PLYLoader to parse the file and its GLTFExporter to write the GLB, loaded on demand via a dynamic import so the rest of the site stays fast for everyone else.
Frequently asked questions
Does this work with point clouds that have no faces?
Yes. If the PLY has no face data, the tool renders and exports it as a point cloud rather than a solid mesh, preserving any per-vertex colors from a 3D scan.
Are vertex colors preserved?
Yes, if the PLY file stores per-vertex RGB color, it carries over into the GLB's vertex colors.
Why convert PLY to GLB?
PLY is common output from 3D scanners and photogrammetry software but isn't widely supported by web viewers or AR tools, while GLB is the compact, broadly supported format for showing scans online or in AR.
Is my scan uploaded anywhere?
No. Parsing and conversion happen entirely in your browser using three.js; the file never leaves your device.
